Biliana Tzinlikova

Piano

The pianist Biliana Tzinlikova finds her home both on the solo stage and as a chamber musician and song accompanist. Her curiosity and her keen spirit of discovery allow her to look back on a multifaceted discography, most of which includes world premiere recordings from the piano literature.

Biliana Tzinlikova developed the spectrum of her pianistic skills during her studies under the influence of different piano traditions: the Russian Piano School – studied with Marina Kapatzinskaja at the State Academy of Music in Sofia – and the Leygraf Piano School – Master's degree in concert studies with Christoph Lieske at the Mozarteum University. The intensive work with Ruggiero Ricci (1998 – 2003) and Ferenc Rados (2002 – 2005) was particularly formative. In addition, BilianaTzinlikova received important impulses from master classes with Elisso Virsaladse, Arndzej Jaszinsky, Pavel Gililov, Menahem Pressler, Paul Badura-Skoda, Alexander Lonquich and Klaus-Christian Schuster.

The focus of her artistic work as a concert pianist has recently been on the rediscovery and re-performance of forgotten piano music. Her CD recordings also bear witness to this: in 2014 she made an instant name for herself in the professional world with the world premiere recordings of the piano sonatas by Franz Anton Hoffmeister (3 CDs, released by Grand Piano, Naxos international). The recordings have been scientifically documented and enthusiastically reviewed in international specialist media. In 2016 a CD with virtuoso variation works by Stephen Heller was released, in 2018 a recording of piano music by the French composer Louise Farrenc, in 2020 a recording with piano compositions by Germaine Tailleferre, Georges Auric and Luis Durey (Paladino Music).

Since 2017, she has been working with actors to develop cross-genre concert programs that focus on female compositional work in music history. She was able to enjoy a close collaboration with the chamber actress Julia Gschnitzer.

As a sought-after chamber music partner and song accompanist, Biliana Tzinlikova can be found on international stages with artists such as Adrian Eröd, Christian Gerhaher, Thomas Selditz, Klara Flieder, Thomas Riebl, Ulf Schneider, Vesna Stankovic, Stephan Picard, Patrick Demenga, Gustav Rivinius, Dany Bonvin, Esther Hoppe, Colin Jacobsen.

She is a co-founder and member of the Ehrbar Chamber Music Society in Vienna. As a soloist at the Salzburg Mozart Week and under Stefan Sanderling with the Vienna RSO, Biliana Tzinlikova has performed in almost all European countries and in the USA. In 2004 she made her debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus.

Since 2002, Biliana Tzinlikova has been teaching at the Mozarteum University, where she has been leading a class for piano chamber music and piano since her habilitation and is the initiator and artistic director of the "Erika Frieser Chamber Music Days" festival, which is dedicated to works by female composers.
